  1. Went to the spring for the first time today, met people who are are regulars and have been using it for two years plus.  Love the water, love the taste, love the energy.  I am going back next week for more.

  2. I have been yesterday there , tha water taste good but I test it with TDS meter and it shows 450 TDS 🙁
I will look for other spring with less than that. ( my tap water have tds 300 and should be not more than 150 tds )

    1. Hi Daniel,

Really Great to hear, I’m from High Wycombe and looking for a good source of well. Did you find a good source and what are the importance key element to check with tools/measurement to check if it is good to use. Many appreciated and with love Paul

  3. I went today and it’s totally magical.  A very beautiful trough and the water is delicious.  I plan on going back regularly (that is assuming nothing funky happens after I drink it!) Thanks Daniel Vitalis for the site and the rest of you for being passionate about water!

  4. Visited for first time today. Very easy access, and closest spring we have found to us, as it’s just over half an hour away. Have been desperate to find decent water, due to health problems. Previously found fantastic one near Brighton, but it’s much harder to access from the road, and too far away. I have just measured the Ph, and it seems to be about 7.0, a bit lower than stated, and interestingly about the same as our tap water, (but obviously better quality)!, better than a certain bottled spring water, and many times better than filtered reverse osmosis. It would be fascinating to know how many people use it, and how many of those are local. There is a house almost next door, I was very tempted to knock on the door and ask!

  5. Hi, I am from Oxford and I’m new to sourcing Spring Any advice on what’s the steps is from here, please? I have managed to get a hold of someone with the water containers to give to me and I don’t drive and I’m aware you use the test TDS meter kit.

  6. i visited this spring today, It is possible to fill bottles from the outflow before the ware falls into the trough. The spring seems not to be well known amongst the locals.Does any one use this spring on a regular dasis?
    KLS

    1. hi KLS, did you manage to harvest enough water and what was the quality like. It is quite strange though that the locals don’t know about the spring. appreciate your response.

    2. Hi KLS,

I am new to sourcing spring water and the issues around it, but as this is near me I would very much like to use it. I presume this is perfectly safe to drink? Did you do so and what was it like?

      Thanks

    3. Hi. I submitted the spring last year. I used to go there with my 7 year old grandson, and we would collect about 80 litres each time. It’s lovely water. Neither of us ever had any problems from drinking it, in fact I also used to wash my face & even bathe my eyes with it. I always poured it through a large funnel with a coffee filter in, as its not always possible to avoid picking up a bit of debris as you are collecting it, especially when collecting large amounts. And, of course, it’s important to keep it cold and to keep the light from it if you are storing it. Sadly I’ve now moved from the area, but wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

  7. Hi everyone. Just joined as I live not far from the spring, and I’m interested in obtaining some beautiful healthy water! Before I do anything else I want to see if anyone has some up to date info, or if they use the spring regularly. Thanks 🙂

  8. Have been 3/4 times to this spring and the water tastes lovely – I tested it today and the TDS reading was around 400. From what I’ve read this is quite a high reading. This is a very chalky area so wondering if that could be a reason for the high reading? Would love to know any others experiences of drinking this spring water?

    1. Hey,
I collected water from this spring and I can tell that the taste is amazing comparing it with a filtered tap water.
I did a TDS test and unfortunately it’s really high like 642. Then I looked what the TDS meter actually does, so it says that it doesn’t mean with a high TDS water actually is undrinkable. So in order to really know its quality I guess there needs to be a proper water purity test done.

  9. Hello There. I discovered your blog using msn. This is

  13. Just wanted to share my experience of gathering some water from this site. I wrongly went into the hotel lobby enquiring about getting some spring water. I was told to e mail the hartwell house hotel and book a time to come down because it’s not open to the public. Then I read the description on here and found the spring myself. Before I managed to get my demijons out I was greeted by a man from the hotel checking up on me because he saw me on the security cameras. Not sure if it was because I was driving a transit van or because I was wearing tracksuit bottoms and a hoodie but I sensed they wetr judging me abit. I was very polite and explained I am trying to get healthy and spring water is very important in doing so. He let me be and I managed to fill 4 jugs 🙂

Word of advice….. Don’t go into the hartwell house hotel like I did!

  14. You are so awesome! I do not suppose I have read through anything like
this before. So nice to discover another person with some genuine thoughts on this subject.
Seriously.. thank you for starting this up.
This site is something that’s needed on the web,
    someone with a little originality!

  15. The spring is afflicted with CCTV! I’m not kidding, there’s a little camera on a pole peeking out from the grounds of the National Trust place and pointing towards the Egyptian Well.

  16. Has anyone had any luck finding a spring closer to Oxford. I am having treatment for breast cancer and wish to do all I can to keep myself healthy including drinking natural spring water. I’d be very grateful for any info or advice.

    1. Hi Paula

I just found a great resource for finding new springs. streetmap.co.uk allows you to navigate the ordinance survey map for the UK online. If you zoom into 1:25000 you will see Spr, Sprs, Fall, Falls and W (well). I’m currently in the process of mapping out my surrounding area and have found dozens. It’s becoming a bit of an obsession!

I just had a look at an area close to Oxford and found about 5 here – http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=456395&Y=210900&A=Y&Z=115. Hope this helps. FYI, I learned about this from http://naturalsprings.co.uk.

      James

      1. Thanks for the map of beckley where there are some springs listed.
I know the farmers at Folly Farm and sadly they spray their land at increasing rates. I would definitely not drink water from here. I would like to learn more but imagine that areas where there is aggressive farming practices will mean the land is really polluted with chemicals. Which is pretty much the whole of Oxfordshire.

      2. hello James I hope you are well. I just found your comment and I was wondering if you managed to find a spring closer to Oxford, which you are happy with? Thank you very much, kind regards, Paola

  17. Was there for the first time today and very pleased with the easy access and great – tasting water. Will go there regularly from now on. If someone knows a spring closer to Oxford/Bicester, please send me an email, would be super grateful!

  18. I am going to try this but would be grateful if there are any near Chipping Norton area I’ve been told by a few people that there are lots of springs in the area but no one has posted any here so I would be grateful if some kind person could assist me,

How to Collect Spring Water

Drinking pure spring water is one of the most important things we can do for our health. Our bodies are over 99% water at the molecular level, so water affects every aspect of our biology. Yet, not all water is created equal. Almost all the bottled spring water available is pasteurized for shelf stability, which neutralizes many of the powerful health benefits such as increased hydrogen, healthy probiotics, and crystalline structure. For more about why unprocessed spring water is the best water to drink, read this.

The best way to guarantee you are getting real unprocessed spring water is to collect it yourself. This is a short and simple guide filled with information about how to gather spring water. We will cover how to find a spring, how to collect the water, how to honor the spring, how to store the water properly and other tips.

FindASpring.org is the best resource for locating a spring near you. However, not all springs are on the map. First, check the map to see if there is a spring in your local area. If there is, look at the reviews and comments. Has anyone shared helpful information about flow rate or posted a water test result? Is the spring in a pristine area? Do a bit of research and make sure the spring is safe to drink from. If you have any doubt about the purity, don’t risk it and get a water test, HERE. If you don’t see a spring on the map in your area, there still might be some that aren’t listed yet. First, ask the older generation who have lived in your area a long time if they know. You can also ask people in your community who might already get spring water such as people at a health food store or at a farmers market. Another great option is to view A US forest service map, where many springs have been marked. You can view these maps through the Gaia GPS or All Trails hiking apps on your phone. The map overlay you want is USGS Topo. Not all are easily accessible or ideal for drinking, but some are and it can be a fun adventure to find them. We have found over half a dozen great springs this way.

Once you’ve found your spring, figure out how you are going to gather the water. Is it right on the side of the road and easy to access or do you have to hike to it? We recommend storing spring water in glass instead of plastic to preserve the purity of the water. It is better for the environment, your body, and the water. Even BPA free plastic has toxic chemicals that can leach into water and cause health issues. If you do want to use plastic for safety reasons when filling at the spring, we recommend transferring the water to glass as soon as possible. FindASpring is sponsored by Alive Waters, which offers beautiful reusable glass. They have a 2.5 gallon option, which is a convenient size for carrying that isn’t too heavy. They also sell handles that you can use to transport the jugs even more easily. If you have to hike to access the spring, we recommend putting the water jugs into an extra large backpack to hike the water out with ease. We use Osprey packs that hold 2 jugs each. You can also use a wheelbarrow or even a stroller depending on how easy a walk it is.

Filling 2.5 Gallon Alive Waters Jug

When you get to the spring, remember to first give back before you take. Springs are considered sacred in indigenous cultures around the world for their life giving water and also as a connection to the inner earth. A powerful and simple way to give back is to clean up. Is there any trash that needs to be collected? Could you move any dead leaves or sticks to improve the flow rate? Show up in service. Some other wonderful ways to give is with a moment of expressing verbal gratitude, singing songs to the water, offering the water an ethically sourced crystal, a feather, or some other physical gift. Flowers are a popular and beautiful thing to offer, but please be careful to source organic ones as most flowers from the store are sprayed with pesticides and can be toxic to put near a spring. Also, flowers can attract bugs as they decay, so it can be best to offer them to the flowing water directly or a little downstream from the spring head.

When gathering the water, fill the jug as close to the spring head as possible, never gather downstream. Be very careful as wet glass is extremely slippery. Make sure the lid is securely fastened. When transporting the spring water home, the jugs can sometimes slide around the car. Secure them in place or wrap them with towels or something so they don’t crash into each other.

How you store your spring water is essential. It is not pasteurized like spring water from the store, so it will start growing algae if left in direct sunlight. This is good because it means it’s alive! If the water you drink can’t even support the most basic life forms, how do you think it will support your body? Store your water in a cool, dark place such as a dark corner, pantry or closet. The fridge is ideal if you have room. Some people prefer to filter their water through a Berkey filter before drinking, but if the spring is pure, it’s not necessary. We drink our spring water completely unfiltered.

How long the water stays good for depends on how cold a temperature it’s stored at. Spring water is best fresh. We personally do not prefer to drink spring water past 2 weeks old. However, we know other people that will drink it at a month old. It’s great to get in a rhythm where you know how long the water lasts you and put your collection day on the calendar in advance.

I believe that water is calling us to reconnect with her in the deepest way, to gather our own water. Just like our ancestors did. Our ancestors didn’t have fancy water machines. They also didn’t create villages or settle where there was no water. Water was revered as the center of the community and the nodal point around which life could spiral out and take root.

Here’s to restoring the sacred connection with the waters of life.
